Motivation Monday – SHORTCUTS…

Seth Godin, a brilliant best seller author, recently wrote this blog post that I thought was…well, brilliant. I’d like to share it with you today:

There aren’t many actual shortcuts.

There are merely direct paths…

Most people don’t take them, because they frighten us–too direct, I guess. It’s easy to avoid the things that frighten us if we wander around for a while. Stalling takes many forms, and one of them looks like a shortcut.

Things that look like shortcuts are actually detours (disguised as less work).

How well this applies to fitness. Although Seth is not necessarily relating this blog post to fitness, I believe we can certainly attribute shortcuts to what often ends up in failure of our fitness goals.

Often times we are fearful that working hard will be too hard! Too much demand, too much change! But isn’t that why we are eating healthy and exercising? To change?

If you aren’t growing, you’re dying. <– Think about that for a minute.

I love FAST results, but achieving a year-long fit and healthy physique is only accomplished by putting in the road work. No shortcuts have worked for me and if they did, they were only temporary.

SHORTCUTS ARE OFTEN DETOURS

May this motivate you to KEEP working hard despite not seeing results as fast as you would like. Even God took 6 days to create the world. He took His time .

If you are taking shortcuts, such as eating very low calories, skipping meals, ignoring all carbs, taking fat loss pills, you are likely  just delaying your results. TRUST that a beautiful body takes time to perfect and trust that HARD WORK PAYS OFF!

    Hi Flavia,

    I love your blog posts, you are an inspiring person who works hard and is dedicated to fitness and health! I love that! I was wondering if you know of anything that could help a person overcome binge eating disorder?? I am currently struggling with this and I don’t know what I can do to overcome it.

    What is your mindset like and what does your diet look like on a regular basis? I really enjoy your blog posts and the workouts were great too! Keep up the excellent work! Your also gorgeous!

      Hey Amanda. Thanks! Binge eating…I wish I could give you some great tips but the only thing I can say is to keep everything unhealthy out of the house. If it isn’t there, you won’t eat it. I used to have pictures of females I wanted to look like posted up in my room years ago. That would motivate me to get to the gym and eat right…not sure that it works for anyone else.

    You mentioned that you started a cold. I did too which sucks having one in July. I’m out of work right now and the only thing i have left is looking forward to my one hour work out time everyday. Now i’m stuck at home and can’t work out.
    My question is are you working out with a cold? Is that safe and should i still try to work out?
    I’m taking alka seltzer cold medicine which makes me feel like a rag doll.

      Yes I am working out, helps me recover faster. Take some Glutamine, fish oils, vitamins and loads of vitamin c. Before bed take zinc and magnesium..will do the trick!

    Love this motivational post, Flavia! It’s so true, you need to keep at it everyday and eventually you will reap the results. I’m in week 7 of Curve and today I wore a sleeveless dress(almost 100 here!) and I couldn’t believe all the comments my co-workers made stating how fit I look. I have to say, I did look really good…but it came with year’s of consistent clean eating, weight lifting and now I’m progressing into muscle development with your program. My arms, calves and legs are tight and have nice definition. Year’s ago I would have worn a blazer or sweater over this dress because of the flab…today I enjoyed year’s of dedication and development!! And, I’m still progressing thanks to your awesome programs!!! :)

    Nice motivation Monday post. Still didn’t help me feel better though. I have been doing this work out now for 3 full weeks and a now on week 4 . I’m eating right and exercising but have not seen the scale move! I don’t even see my body changing. I don’t know what I’m doing wrong. I work out at 5am and have a protein shake after with breakfast (Ezekiel bread, almond butter and banana) on the way to work. Snack is oatmeal with fruit and almonds in it. Lunch is some type of salad and 2-3oz of protein. Snack is some type of fruit and then dinner is protein and veggies.
    Someone please tell me what I’m doing wrong?!

      I’m also now on week 4. I try not to even look at the scale, but instead rely on measurements, pictures and how my clothes fit (a much better barometer). If you haven’t taken pictures/measurements, do that now to see how it’s changing over the next few weeks.

      Keep at it, and don’t let it get you down! Change takes time, it will happen though if you keep working towards the goal :-)

      Hey Tammy. You need to follow the meal plan rules. We don’t mix carbs with fats so bread and almond butter don’t work for Curve and Oatmeal and almonds shouldn’t go together either. Unless your diet is dialed in, you won’t see much change. Have a read of the nutrition guide and follow it this week and you will start to see changes.

      Did you get the done for you meal plans?

    Hi Flavia, I have been “ignoring all carbs” for 5 months now and my energy has been getting worse and I’m very depressed. I have also been doing the “meat and nuts” breakfast and it makes me feel heavy and sluggish. Can you please advise what you have for breakfast and throughout the day? Also, what is your opinion on coffee? How many espressos do you drink per day? Kind Regards, Nic :)
